Is it possible to put together a group video/photo shoot in a week and create 2 full costumes – one of them being an armor – in 4 days? If you need the proof, look no further (although I absolutely don’t recommend doing it). I had been talking with my good friend and photographer Rebecca about photo shoot dates and we both had a day free, but no specific plans for the shoot. This somehow morphed into a Critical Role project involving 7 people with a showcase video loosely based on episode 68 (Cloak and Dagger) of the first campaign.
With our time constraint, we unfortunately weren’t able to get a Grog or Scanlan for this project, but we’re planning to give ourselves some more time to create something bigger in the future. Before the shoot, Vibe (Keyleth), Nora (Pike) and I met up for a weekend to work together on creating their costumes, style wigs and make props. It was one of the most intense crafting experiences I’ve been a part of. Without the incredible effort from the entire team, this shoot would not have happened. This is definitely proof that with determination, lots of coffee and just a hint of madness, anything is possible.
I already had a lot of photos of my Percy cosplay, so I decided that it would be fun to rip up parts of the costume and get covered in grime and blood for some emotional photos. I made my peace with destroying one of my favorite creations and ended up having a lot of fun with it. There’s only so much time you can let a costume collect dust – why not give it a dramatic last performance?
